What is ESPOIR?
ESPOIR (Education dans le Système Public Offrant une Instruction Réimaginée) is a new education programme by the Government of the République Centrafricaine to revitalise the primary education system and deliver dramatic improvements in learning outcomes in public schools for all children across the country.

What is the goal of the ESPOIR programme?
- The primary goals of ESPOIR are: Ensure accelerated and continuous improvement in learning outcomes for pupils.
- Train teachers in modern, scientifically-based pedagogy.
- Enable effective academic monitoring through regular teacher observations.
- Enable digital transformation of the education system.
How can I send my child to an ESPOIR school?
ESPOIR schools are the existing Government public schools in select communities/districts/administrative units. If your child is enrolled in a government public school there, then they are enrolled in an ESPOIR school.
What subjects will be taught in this programme?
The ESPOIR programme focuses on foundational subjects critical to the development of students. The key subjects include:
- Reading and Writing: Emphasizing literacy skills to ensure students can read and write proficiently.
- Mathematics: Developing numeracy skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Science: Introducing fundamental concepts to spark curiosity and understanding of the world.
- Civic Education: Teaching values, responsibilities, and citizenship to foster informed and responsible individuals.
These subjects are designed to align with the national curriculum while incorporating innovative teaching methods to enhance learning outcomes.
Will ESPOIR teachers be provided any specialised training?
Yes. All teachers in ESPOIR schools are trained to use innovative classroom management techniques, teaching philosophy and technology, prior to the start of the programme. All teachers then continue to receive weekly coaching; training and support in the classroom and get feedback from specialised learning and development teams.
How will ESPOIR be monitored and evaluated?
Success of ESPOIR will be measured through improved learning outcomes for pupils; which are continually reviewed and analysed through the use of an innovative technology platform. ESPOIR has set clear performance indicators; in teaching, school management and outcomes. Each classroom and school in the programme will be digitally monitored, putting transparency, accountability, and data at the core of the programme.
